Public Comment on Proposed Algebra, Functions, and Data Analysis Standards of Learning

 

On February 28, 2007, the Virginia Board of Education accepted for first review proposed Standards of Learning for an optional high school course, Algebra, Functions, and Data Analysis. The Virginia Board of Education is now seeking public comment on the proposed Standards of Learning for use in the public schools of the Commonwealth.

 

The proposed Algebra, Functions, and Data Analysis Standards of Learning may be found on the Department of Educations website at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/VA_Board/Meetings/2007/feb-itemG.pdf. Comments should be e-mailed to Deborah Kiger Bliss, mathematics coordinator, at Deborah.Bliss@doe.virginia.gov.

 

The Virginia Board of Education will hold three public hearings to solicit comments on the proposed Algebra, Functions, and Data Analysis Standards of Learning. Two public hearings will be held on April 30, 2007, at 7 p.m. at:

 

George Wythe High School

1 Maroon Way

Wytheville, VA 24382

 

Robinson Secondary School

5035 Sideburn Road

Fairfax, VA 22032

 

Registration of speakers for these two public hearings will begin at 6:30 p.m. The third public hearing will be held on April 27, 2007, immediately following the adjournment of the Board of Educations business meeting, which begins at 9 a.m. at:

Richmond, VA 23219.

 

Registration of speakers for the hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. Directions to these locations may be found on the Department of Educations website, http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/meetings.html.

 

Speakers will have three minutes to speak and should bring copies of their comments for the Board. Comments may be faxed to the Department at (804) 786-5466 or sent via mail or e-mail until April 30, 2007, to Deborah Kiger Bliss, mathematics coordinator, Office of Middle and High School Instruction, Virginia Department of Education, P.O. Box 2120, Richmond, VA 23218-2120.
