Governing Reduction of State Aid When Length of School Term Below 180 Days or
990 Teaching Hours |
On
July 1, 2005, via Informational Superintendents Memorandum Number 131, and on
November 2, 2006, via Superintendents Informational Memorandum Number 237, we
notified you of changes that had been made by the General Assembly to 22.1-98
of the Code of Virginia. This Code section governs the reduction of
school aid when the length of the school term is below 180 days or 990 hours.
We also notified you that final regulations promulgated by the Board of
Education incorporating these changes had become effective on October 1, 2006.
One
of the changes in the Code outlined in the memos was a new requirement that the
division superintendent and chairman of the local school board are required to
certify the total number of teaching days and hours each year as part of their
annual report to the Board of Education.
In
addition, the Board of Educations Regulations
Governing Reduction of State Aid When Length of School Term Below 180 Days or
990 Teaching Hours, 8 VAC 20-520-5 et seq., require that local school
division superintendents certify by April 15 of each year that they have read
and complied with these provisions and are implementing a plan for making up
any missed time that has not been waived in accordance with the regulations. In
order for you to provide the certification, we have attached a Statement
Affirming Compliance with the Boards Regulations
Governing Reduction of State Aid When Length of School Term Below 180 Days or
990 Teaching Hours. Please complete,
sign and mail this form by April 15, 2007, to the Division of Policy and
