Additional
Instructional Intervention to Satisfy Provisions in the Standards of Accreditation (SOA) |
The
Regulations Establishing Standards for Accrediting Public Schools in
Virginia require schools accredited with warning in English or mathematics
to adopt and implement instructional interventions that have a proven track
record of success at raising student achievement. At its meeting on February 28, 2007, the
Board of Education added Saxon Phonics
and Spelling K-3 to the approved instructional intervention list.
The
Department of Education has prepared an updated Technical Assistance Resource
Document that contains the Board-approved list and background information on
each intervention, as well as the selection criteria and associated disclaimers. The updated list can be found at the
following website: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/title1/Interventions.pdf. The information included in the resource
document is intended to assist schools that are accredited with warning in
selecting and implementing an appropriate instructional intervention.
For
more information about the instructional interventions, contact Anthony Dursa (Anthony.Dursa@doe.virginia.gov),
education specialist, at (804) 371-7579.
