A No Child Left Behind Technical Assistance
Audio Workshop for Schools on the Title I Watch List |
The
Department of Education is pleased to announce a one-hour technical assistance
audio workshop for school divisions with schools on the Title I watch list. Watch schools are those Title I schools
that did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in reading (English/language
arts), mathematics, or both for the 2006-2007 school year based on the 2005-2006
Standards of Learning tests and are not already in School Improvement. These schools have been designated watch
schools because they will enter Title I School Improvement for the 2007-2008
school year if they do not meet AYP in the same subject area for a second
consecutive year.
School
divisions were notified of schools that are considered watch schools through
letters to division superintendents during the week of January 22, 2007. The notification included a letter describing
what a watch school is as well as a list of the schools in each school
division that are considered watch schools.
The purpose of this audio
workshop is to prepare schools that have the potential to enter their first
year of School Improvement for 2007-2008.
The audio workshop will focus on the sanctions that must be implemented
when a school enters year one of Title I School Improvement. School Improvement sanctions for year two
schools will also be addressed.
The
one-hour audio workshop will be held on two different dates and times. The first audio workshop will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2007, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The next two will be held Thursday, March 29, 2007, from 9 a.m.
to 10 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. School
divisions with schools on the watch list are asked to assemble their
representatives at one location, use a speakerphone, and participate at the
time assigned below. Divisions are
assigned a time according to the beginning letter of their school divisions
name. At the appointed starting time,
the caller should dial the toll-free number and enter the passcode
below.
