SUBJECT:	Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals Annual Assistant Principals/Lead Teachers Conference, March 26-27, 2007, Williamsburg Lodge, Williamsburg, Virginia

The Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP), the Virginia Department of Education (DOE), and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) extend an invitation to all assistant principals, lead teachers, principals, and other professional educators within your school or school district to participate in the 2007 Annual Assistant Principals/Lead Teachers Professional Development Conference. The conference will be held March 26-27, 2007, at the Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia.

This conference is designed specifically for assistant principals and lead teachers who are responsible for providing instructional leadership of schools. John Antonetti, former Director of K-12 Curriculum in the Sheridan School District in Arkansas, will provide the initial keynote presentation. Mr. Antonetti, author of Lessons from the MIRA: Writing as the Measure of Thinking, addresses issues such as improving the knowledge and skills of school leaders as they transform their approach to standards, assessment, and accountability. His humor and parables are recognized by teachers, administrators, and parents as relevant examples of the power of educators.

Other keynote speakers include Marvin Thompson on leadership, Donna Sawyer on curriculum/instruction, and Lori Chaney on technology.

A variety of concurrent sessions will be offered to participants in the strands of leadership, curriculum/instruction, safety, policy, and technology. Conference participants will be updated with the latest changes to current policy from the State Board of Education, as well as new mandates from the 2007 General Assembly.
