2007 Great Virginia Teach-In: A Call
to Teach |
The
Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce that the 2007 Great Virginia Teach-In: A Call to
Teach will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007. The Department is securing the Greater
Richmond Convention Center in
The
Department will advertise the Teach-In nationwide. The anticipated audience
will include graduates from teacher education programs, teachers from other
states, individuals interested in returning to teaching, retirees, college
graduates in the arts and sciences, and non-teaching professionals interested
in pursuing a teaching career.
The
Teach-In will begin with an opening session and then focus on the following three
concurrent activities:
a)
interview opportunities with human resources personnel from participating
school divisions; b) individual and group sessions with Department of Education
licensure staff regarding requirements for obtaining licensure in Virginia; and
c) booth exhibits featuring Virginia school divisions, state-approved teacher
preparation and Career Switcher programs, and other organizations committed to
supporting quality teaching in Virginia.
In
the past three years, the Teach-In was funded by the federal Teacher Quality Enhancement
(TQE) grant. Since that grant is closing, the event will be sponsored by the

hope that you and others in your division will make plans to participate in the 2007 Great Virginia Teach-In. Please
complete and fax the attached response form to

available soon for participants and school divisions.
