House Joint
Resolution No. 130 (2006) encourages the Department of Education to collect
data and information pertaining to high school dropout and graduation rates in
the Commonwealth. A copy of HJR 130 is
attached to this memo.
The
Department of Education collects student records at the end of the school year
through our Student Record Collection (SRC).
These student records are the basis for calculating various statistics,
including dropout and graduation rates.
Accuracy of the data collected is particularly important and
superintendents are encouraged to carefully review their verification reports
prior to signing. Procedures are in
place to ensure that no student is reported more than once and to account for
every student enrolled in
The role of
your divisions official Student Records Collection Contact is vital to the
accuracy and timeliness of the data for the entire state as the contacts must
communicate with one another and sometimes re-submit data when enrollment of a
student is in question.
We commend
the school division Student Records Collection contacts for their hard work in
submitting quality data to the department as requested.
