SUBJECT:	Adult Basic Education (ABE)

This memorandum is to inform you that the Adult Basic Education (ABE) application for continuation for Fiscal Year 2001-2002 has been sent directly to those superintendents who have an approved five-year plan for Adult Education on file with the Virginia Department of Education. The application packet includes all required forms that must be submitted to the department as well as detailed instructions related to completion of the forms. ABE allocations for each local program also are included in this packet.

The deadline for returning the application packet to the department is May 31, 2001. The packet should be returned to Dr. Yvonne Thayer, director, Office of Adult Education and Literacy. The application packet can be found in electronic form at the Department of Education’s website: http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Instruction/Adult/.
