| FROM: | Jo Lynne DeMary
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Federal Program Monitoring Review of the School Nutrition Programs |
The Code of Federal Regulations 7, Section 210.18, requires the Department of Education to conduct an administrative review of the school breakfast and lunch programs in each school division once every five years. This review is a comprehensive on-site evaluation of school nutrition programs designed to assess compliance with regulations, standards, and state and federal laws. For your information, the schedule for the next five years is attached (Attachment 1).
A tentative review calendar for the school year 2001-2002 is also attached (Attachment 2). School divisions scheduled for a review next year are asked to review these dates and advise the School Nutrition Programs Office by July 13, 2001, of any conflicts due to holidays, scheduled breaks, or examination schedules.
School Nutrition Programs will conduct orientation sessions for divisions scheduled for a review next school year. Each division is required to send a representative to one of the scheduled workshops. The representative should have division-wide responsibilities for the school nutrition program.
Orientations are scheduled for September
2001 in the cities of Richmond and Radford. Additional information and
registration details will be sent in mid-July.
If you have questions regarding the schedule, please contact India Liggon at (804) 225-2074.
